Sarah Nesbitt Artecona, Assistant Vice President of Community Relations, joined the University of Miami in 2000 and has been instrumental in developing and enhancing the University's partnership with neighboring communities. However, Sarah's history with the U goes back much further than her successful career.
Sarah was born at Doctor's Hospital, a stone's throw from the University and grew up on Hardee Road, the street behind her current office. Her parents met at the University's School of Law on their first day of classes and were married for 44 years. Sarah's mother, Lenore Carrrero Nesbitt, was the first female federal judge appointed to the U.S. Southern District of Florida and her father Joe was a member of the Third District Court of Appeals. Judge Lenore was a member of the University's Board of Trustees and served until her passing in 2001. "My roots are here and I'm grateful to have been able to call the neighborhood and University home for so many years," she said.
Projects developed under Sarah's leadership at the University, include enhancing the university's outreach to its neighbors, University Village and Development Agreement with the City of Coral Gables. During her tenure at the U, Sarah has met U.S. Presidents, Supreme Court Justice John Roberts, and the Dalia Lama. "These amazing opportunities, along with my deep commitment to the U, inspired me to pledge my support and help future generations," said Sarah.
Sarah has made a bequest in her estate plans to fund the Lenore C. Nesbitt Scholarship Fund at the School of Law in memory and honor of her mother. "A planned gift can change a student's life, further an academic's research, and build a better learning platform for generations to come. I am so proud of my association with the U and want that pride to carry forward with future generations," she said.
